Xebia was founded in 2001 in the Netherlands by Daan Teunissen and a group of senior IT architects with a mission to raise the quality of IT systems. Starting with a focus on architecture, the team quickly expanded its portfolio to include Java engineering.

From day one, Xebia embraced Agile methodologies, collaborating with pioneers like Jeff Sutherland. These early years were shaped by a commitment to openness, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

By 2004, the company had set its sights on becoming a global authority in technology. This vision led to the launch of Xebia Academy and a shift from simply delivering software to creating lasting impact.

These formative years established the cultural foundation that continues to guide us today.

Xebia began expanding beyond the Netherlands, establishing a presence in India to support a wider range of international clients. This phase emphasized delivery excellence and deepening technical expertise.

The company broadened its capabilities to include mobile development, architecture consulting, and product innovation. In 2008, Xebia launched its first product spin-off: XebiaLabs.

This era also marked a cultural shift. Xebia reaffirmed its role as a home for passionate technologists and began evolving into a full-service digital consulting firm. Specialized chapters emerged, focusing on Agile, Software Development, IT Architecture, and Test Automation.

Xebia entered a phase of organic growth, launching specialized business units in areas such as Data, Cloud, and Digital Strategy.

The company adopted a boutique model, forming expert-led firms under the Xebia umbrella to ensure deep domain focus.
Alongside its consulting work, more product spin-offs emerged from successful client engagements. These included StackState, a monitoring and observability platform, and Instruqt, a hands-on training environment for software teams.

This period was defined by Xebia’s growing global reputation as a trusted transformation partner, supported by consultant-authored books and regular appearances at major industry conferences.

To accelerate innovation and scale, Xebia began acquiring expert firms around the world. These strategic acquisitions expanded its capabilities in cloud, low-code, product engineering, and data. Notable additions include PGS Software, Appcino, coMakeIT, g-company, 47 Degrees, Netlink Digital Solutions, GetInData, SwissQ, and Oblivion.

By the end of this phase, Xebia had evolved into a globally integrated network of high-performing consulting practices, each recognized for deep expertise and a strong technical culture. This integration is reflected in a unified brand strategy that combines global reach with local strength.

This chapter marks Xebia’s transition into an AI-first company. Artificial intelligence is now embedded across its services, operations, and industry solutions, enabling automation, insights, and innovation at scale.

In 2023, Xebia moved its global headquarters to Atlanta, Georgia, strengthening its presence in the Americas and advancing its global vision.
